Sword of the Spirit: Boot Camp for Christians

#Sword of the Spirit=The word of God upon which we stand. The Word of God is our sword. A sword can be used for defense or offense. In order to use it effectively, you must learn the proper way to use it. A skilled swordsman studies tactics, strategy, and form. He learns from others and will practice his skills extensively.

The more we know and understand #God’s Word, the more we’ll be able to draw from it in times of stress, pain, and struggle. We know all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called to His purpose, but that does not mean we won’t have difficulties in life. There are trials and tests we go through to strengthen and teach us to rely on Jesus.

For hundreds of years the priests were the only people who had access to the Bible. They believed God’s Word was too difficult for regular people to understand. With the printing of Bibles and the widespread ability to read the Word for themselves, Christians spent hours pouring over, studying, and meditating on the Bible.

Today, we have a real problem in the Christian Church in the United States and much of the world. People don’t know what the Bible says and therefore have difficulty walking in its truths. There’s a real lack of understanding of God’s word. They attend church and listen to ministers and pastors, but don’t read the Bible for themselves…they don’t take the time. I’m just as guilty as the next. I will make the effort to read the Bible and for a while will read everyday. Then life intrudes and we get busy. It’s easy to forget or put off until later. I’m working to correct this, but some days are difficult. Though I have read the entire Bible and have my favorite books, I need to spend more time reading and studying God’s love letter to His people.

The Bible teaches “The people perish for lack of understanding.” The only way to understand is to read, study, and  think about the Bible and what it teaches. We encourage you to pickup your Bible and start reading on a regular basis. As little as five minutes or hours makes little difference, the important thing is to do it regularly.

As darkness grows in our world, we’ll need the Sword of the Spirit working in our lives. Preparation in this area of your life is vital to your future success.
