New Years 2014 is upon us. For many it is just another year, all will be the same, nothing changes. For others, the New Year provides a target date for change. Many desire to lose weight, stop smoking, exercise more, learn something new, graduate from school…the list goes on and on. New Years can offer a new beginning, time to change your attitude or behavior, even your goals. Just as we look toward changes in our life…Jesus offers us a New Year (a new life) anytime we accept His love and grace putting out faith in Him as Lord and Savior.
The difference in our yearly resolutions and a new life in Christ Jesus is…one is in our physical world and the other in our spiritual life.
Jesus wants to bring a permanent change to our spirit. When we are reborn…our old corrupt nature filled with sin and shame is removed. We are given a new heart alive to God. This new heart desires to please God, rely on God and to accept Him as our Father. It acknowledges our need for Jesus as our Savior, Lord and King.
With this new life come new responsibilities. We must learn to accept the differences in others and strive to walk in love with all people. This does not mean we condone sin in their lives… we just do not condemn them. In our politically correct world today that can be a problem for believers. How do we speak the truth in love without causing offence or come across judgmental? The answer is most of the time, we can’t. There are so many topics and socially accepted sins that only bring upset if we take a stand. So what do we do?
For me, unless I know the person extremely well, I stay quiet. Matthew 7:6 (GW)
6 “Don’t give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls to pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them and then tear you to pieces.
God’s Word is considered in some verses as pearls…of wisdom. So in this verse, I believe it means we are not to share the Word that is planted in our hearts with those who will not appreciate it or who do not believe in God. To them, His wisdom is ignorant, intolerant, or narrow-minded. Their unrenewed hearts and minds will not understand. So it’s best to stay quiet. As you can see, God warns us they will only tear you down as a result.
Yet, we need to stand for righteousness in this perverse generation. We must stand for our faith and beliefs. I take the Bible literally. If God says it in His Holy Word, that’s just the way it is. In cases where the world and its beliefs are in conflict with God’s Word, let God be true and every man a liar.
Romans 3:3-4 (NKJV)
3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?
4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.”
The New Year is a great time to search your heart. A time to establish or renew your walk with God. His love for you is endless. He is waiting for you to come to Him. As times grow more and more difficult you will need His guidance and direction.
In closing, I pray happiness and blessings will be yours in the New Year. May God give you the ability to stand with Him and walk in holiness and righteous each and every day.
