Father God

I want to start the New Year at our foundation. God is our Father, so what does that mean? Just like our earthly dads, Father God teaches us, watches over us and protects us. He wants all good things for us. He feels bad when bad things happen. He rejoices with us when wonderful things happen in our life. He disciplines us when we get out of line. He guides and directs us down the path He wants us to go. He smiles with us when we make righteous choices and decisions. He LOVES us unconditionally. There is nothing we can do that will separate us from His great and merciful love. Yet through it all we have free will to say yes to Him or turn away from Him.

What He does NOT do is hurt or harm us in any way. This morning I attended church and listened to a pastor tell the congregation, some months ago he rushed up the steps in the sanctuary to begin his sermon and injured his heel. He claimed God did that to get him to slow down. That made me angry. My Father God does not bring injury or hurt of any kind to His children.

This pastor stood before hundreds of people and told them my loving Father does bad things to get our attention. He slandered my Father God. He blamed God for his injury. By default, he told people it is okay to blame God for the awful things that happen in our life.

I would ask that pastor, as a dad, a father would you injure your child to get him to listen to you? Would you make him or her suffer through months of pain? Would you give your child an illness? I assume he would answer no. If you did do any of those things, do you think your child would come to you when you were hurting or would he or she run from you? If it was me I wouldn’t want anything to do with you. So my next question is: why would you think Father God would do that to you or anyone else? Father God loves us more than you could ever love your children and you wouldn’t hurt them, so why are you telling people God would?

Accidents happen every day causing injury. I broke both elbows when my ladder slipped three years ago. It was just a mishap.  Illness is a product of this fallen world in which we live. Death is also a result of this fallen world. Father God never wanted any of it to happen.

Please pay attention, Father God has NOT EVER caused injury, illness, or pain in our lives. What He does do is make all things work together for our good after a bad thing happens. Father God wants us to come to Him in our times of trouble, pain, injury and illness because He wants to comfort, hold us tight, help and heal us. He will turn things around and you will find a blessing, something good will come out of it. Again, Father God is not the author of any injury, pain, illness, or any bad in our life!

Jesus is fully God and fully man. He is love and came to show us what Father God is like. He is gentle, kind, patient, is not provoked and thinks no evil (nor brings it upon people). He would never hurt or harm anyone. He healed and forgave the people of the earth. He came to restore us to Father God.

This is why we can go to Jesus, Father God and the Holy Spirit when bad things happen. Our Father in Heaven loves us more than we can ever know and we can trust in Him.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NKJV)  4  Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5  does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6  does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7  bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8  Love never fails.

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)  28  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Good article. God can do nothing outside his character so He neither tempts man nor lies to us. His plans for us are good. I think as humans we want to see everything as cause and affect, and needing to blame someone for bad things happening. I don’t think life is all that simple. Yes some things happen just because we live in a fallen world. Yet we have not been left as orphans because God has given us all things for a life of godliness. We have to do our part to enter into a life that pleases God. People talk about how amazing heaven is going to be but think of how much more amazing is the God who made heaven.
