Breastplate of Righteousness: Boot Camp for Christians

Our Breastplate of Righteousness covers our torso and protects us from attacks. As with all of our Spiritual armor, it works hand in hand with God’s Word. As we said last week, righteousness denotes doing things God’s way and not the world’s way. It understands that truth comes from Father God. It protects us from wrong thinking and keeps us on the right path.

To know and understand what God’s ways are and how to live a holy life, we must go to His Word, Jesus Christ. He teaches us what our Father in Heaven wants us to do. He sends the Holy Spirit to each believer to lead us into all righteousness. He warns us if we stray off the path upon which He wants us to travel. We’ve been given the Bible, God’s Holy Word, that is where we begin to find holiness and righteousness for our lives.

Without Jesus, human hearts are not pure. They are corrupt and evil. Feelings are fickle. They can be deceived, tricked, and lured into emotions, unacceptable words, or actions that are totally unChrist like. In Jesus, people are reborn. Our shriveled heart is renewed…restored and alive to God.

Jesus gives us the Breastplate of Righteousness because we are under attack everyday by people who do not live by the higher standard of God’s way or do not understand them. When we engage (put on) the Breastplate of Righteousness correctly, we are sheltered from Satan’s whisperings, persuasive snake oil salesmen, and worldly philosophies that try to worm their way into our thoughts or provoke us to behave improperly.

We are bombarded daily with the world’s idea of what we should think, feel, and act. It would be easy to succumb to their pressure and arguments. The world’s ways are usually the way of least resistance. It’s easier to go with the flow and not buck the system. It’s like trying to swim upstream in a fast moving river. But there is fulfillment, satisfaction, and contentment in following God’s Word.

God’s ways are always best, difficult as sometimes they might be. We encourage you to study God’s Word, meditate on his Word, and pray. Each morning put on your armor, beginning with the Breastplate of Righteousness.
