Contrary to popular belief, the Boots of Peace, (Boots of the preparation of the gospel of peace) is not preaching peace throughout the world, rather it’s our understanding, this piece of our Spiritual Armor is peace is available between God and man (which includes both men and women) through faith in Jesus Christ. It’s the peace Jesus Christ provided through his sacrifice on the cross between man and God. Most preachers talking about peace in this text teach this peace is among men. Worldwide peace is a noble goal. The reality is this side of heaven there will never be total peace among men.
Peace with Father God is vital for every man, woman, or child. Sin fractured that peace and created a break in the relationship between us and God. The punishment for sin is death. So Jesus, God’s only son, paid the price, took our punishment, and died in our place. Then Jesus rose from death and created a bridge for all who believe in Him. Our faith in Jesus reconciles believers with Our Father in Heaven. As a result, all who believe have peace with Father God.
Once our peace with God is re-established, we’re called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and help others achieve peace with our Creator as well. Jesus, our General in this Spiritual Battle, commanded us to be His witnesses. We’re to share the love of Christ with others, to disciple (to make followers of them), baptist them and teach them God’s Word and ways.
Christians are accused of forcing our faith down other peoples throats. Through the years, many over zealous believers have harmed our witness of love by being too forceful and demanding. Jesus never chased people down and demanded they believe in him…we cannot either. Jesus was loving and never condemned anyone…we cannot either. Jesus never threw sin in the faces of the people…we cannot either. It does not mean we condone their sin, but we are not their judge. God is. We must learn to love people into the kingdom of God through our Christ-like attitudes and behaviors. We must remember, Jesus instructed the disciples to brush the dust from their feet in a town where they people didn’t want to hear and we must allow others the right to say no to Jesus. In these cases, we must walk away.
We encourage you to put on your Boots of peace. Allow Jesus to bring peace with our Father God into your life. Then you can share that peace with those around you who are willing to listen.
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV)
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
